The Junior Albemarle Mathematics Competition is an all-day math event featuring competitions and games for middle school students. The sixth annual competition will take place January 25th, 2020.
Time: Registration opens at 8:15 AM, competition begins at 9:00 AM, event ends approximately 3:30 PM
Location: Albemarle Center One
Teams:
Cost: $40 per team, which includes lunch for each member and the coach. Individuals may register at a cost of $10 per student Checks should be made out to Albemarle High School Math Club or Albemarle High School Math Honor Society; we ask that coaches register all teams at the same time.

Format:
1. Individual Rounds: There will be two 45 minute individual tests. Each member of each team will choose two tests to take. Tests available will be Algebra, Geometry and General. General covers a wide variety of topics, including algebra and geometry, as well as number theory and combinatorics. Each team is required to have at least two students take each type of test. For example, a team cannot have everyone take only Algebra and Geometry.
2. Team Round: The whole team of four students works together to do problems.

4. Finalists round: The top students in each category of individual tests will take an individual test. The test will encompass all categories. During this time there will be a room setup for other students to participate in other activities.such as a 24 tournament, chess, a mock-Jeopardy game and more. We will also have Math Club members available at this time to answer questions and to discuss problem solving strategies with interested students.
5. Guts round: This is a live round. Teams will be given 3 questions at a time; after solving they will submit their solutions and receive 3 new questions. Scores will be updated constantly and standing projected live on a screen in each room.
5. Award Ceremony: We will conclude with an award ceremony. Awards will be given for top individuals in each category, top team in team test, top overall individuals and top overall teams.
