Meet the teacher

Educational Experience

Hello families! My name is Adrienne Lievense and I am a certified Reading Specialist. I earned my masters degree as a Reading Specialist from Lesley University and have been teaching reading at the Argenziano School for 6 years.

I am a Wilson Certified specialist, trained in various programs like Lively letters, LIPS, and Fundations. I have also designed and led many professional development programs on the topics of how to interpret DIBELS data, using Fundations in the classroom and how to run a small reading group in the classroom.

Prior to being a reading teacher, I taught Kindergarten in Malden for 5 years. I have also taught as a first grade and 2nd grade teacher, and a preschool teacher prior to earning my masters as a reading specialist.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe that all children are unique and have something they can bring to their own learning experience. Learning to read is a journey that each student experiences differently.

I believe that if we give each child the tools to succeed, they will succeed in their own ways. I believe that the essential tools of teaching reading are phonemic awareness instruction, phonics instruction, vocabulary and sight word instruction, fluency and finally comprehension. Success, in my belief, is measured in growth - and each child's reading grows at different paces.

Most of all, I believe in fostering a love of reading and an understanding of the importance of reading in every day life.

Personal Information

As a child I always loved reading, my favorite all time book is Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey. Every year for Mother's day my family and I visit the Boston Public garden and the Make way for ducklings statue there. I enjoy gardening, knitting and biking as well.
