Literary Analysis Essay: To Kill a Mockingbird: Reading Literature: Craft and Structure: 11.5. Analyze how an author’s choices concerning how to structure specific parts of a text contribute to its overall structure and meaning as well as its aesthetic impact. Standards: RL.11-12: 5; W.11-12: 4, 5, 7, 9
Various short stories with assignments targeting reading skills will be assigned after the completion of the literary analysis essay.
12th Composition:

Research-Based Argumentative Essay: (Length: 8-10 full pages, MLA formatted)
Guidelines: 5 sources from the SIRS Issues Research Database from the SD State Library
Writing Process that will be graded: Research collected and highlighted; paraphrasing table; outline template; first draft; final draft (worth 250 points)
**Note: This essay will also comprise 60% of the semester test grade with 40% coming from the media analysis essay
**Final Draft Due: December 11, 2025

Media Analysis Essay: analyze the purpose and message of a film and write an argumentative-based media analysis essay. Standards: RI.11-12: 7; W.11-12: 7, 8, 9; SL.11-12: 2
**Note: The media analysis essay will be 40% of the semester test grade. The other 60% of the semester test grade will be based on the argumentative essay.
