The mission of the Andover Induction & Mentor Program (A.I.M) is to improve teaching and learning by providing a collegial support network, and opportunities for ongoing professional learning, to educators and specialists who are new to the profession as well as those new to the Andover Public Schools.

The A.I.M Better Beginnings Course will use district and state guidelines to assist participants in:
Orientation to district-wide goals and values
The use of a needs assessment and Action Tools to develop directed conversations with their mentor (30 hour minimum). Formal peer observation strategies.
A heightened understanding of the phases of new teachers/specialists and the continuum of needs aligned to this model.
Ongoing supports around the teacher evaluation process and the standards and indicators of effective teaching practice:

Program components for our mentors include:
The A.I.M. Mentoring Matters Course will use district and state guidelines to assist participants in:
Understanding the role of a mentor is a non -supervisory and confidential one
Coaching strategies and collegial conversations
The use of action tools to meet the continuum of needs of their mentee.
Directed activities to support new teachers around the standards and indicators of effective teaching practice.
They are asked to meet with their mentee for 30 hours throughout the school year and use the online course and provided supports to assist them throughout the year.

*Mentors at Step 14 M+75 or Step 14 Doctorate track shall have the option of a $500.00 dollar stipend for mentoring. Pre-approval required.

Andover's Mentor Program is based on Massachusetts standards for New Teacher Induction including mentoring guidelines as well as a great deal of additional in-depth research.
