This year, it was Crewkerne’s turn to visit our twin towns of Igny and Bures-sur-Yvette in France, and what a warm and memorable trip it was!
The group set off early from the Henhayes Centre and were warmly welcomed after a smooth journey. Over the weekend, they enjoyed a guided tour of the stunning Château de Dampierre, complete with a horse-drawn carriage ride and a picnic lunch in the grounds.
Friday evening brought everyone together for a traditional French soirée with a hog roast, speeches from local mayors and Crewkerne representative Alice Samuel (who spoke beautifully in French!), gift exchanges, and dancing into the night.
Saturday included hosted breakfasts, garden and school tours, and the chance to experience local life—Alice even had the honour of attending a wedding conducted by the Mayor of Bures. The day finished with personal outings to places such as Versailles, Paris and Dourdan, all generously arranged and paid for by our hosts.
The trip was a brilliant example of the value of twinning—strengthening international friendships, sharing cultures, and building educational and community links.
A big thank you to our hosts in Igny and Bures for their amazing hospitality, and to the Chair of the Crewkerne Twinning Association, Lorna Scudder, for organising such a wonderful trip and fundraising to support it.
Next year marks 50 years twinned with Igny and 20 years with Bures-sur-Yvette—we look forward to returning the favour and welcoming our French friends to Crewkerne in 2026!
