It's true that the rule against it is based on Latin grammar that doesn't apply to English. It's also true that some idioms sound funny if they're rewritten to avoid ending a sentence in a proposition. However, so many people have been taught for so many years that it's wrong to end a sentence with a preposition that you're likely to distract a significant part of your audience if a preposition is what you stop with. Moreover, strong sentences generally end with powerful words, and prepositions are generally weak words. Therefore, absent a compelling reason, it's usually better to find ways to craft sentences that don't end with prepositions.
