About Me:

This is my 29th year teaching language arts, and I love middle school! I have been at Sunset Ridge since it opened in 2005. I have a Bachelor's degree from Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington; and a Master's degree from Westminster College in Salt Lake. I am also National Board certified in English Language Arts/Early Adolescence. I am married, and I have a 13-year-old and two kitties.

This Year We Will Learn To:

    1. Comprehend a variety of texts proficiently. (Read, read, read!)

    2. Produce, edit, and publish high quality writing. (Write, write, write!)

    3. Find and infer central ideas and key details from a text and support conclusions with textual evidence.

    4. Comprehend, analyze, and create arguments in multiple formats.

    5. Effectively find, evaluate, and use, and cite outside sources in writing.

    6. Analyze how text structure contributes to meaning and purpose, and tailor writing to address purpose and audience.

    7. Compare and contrast ideas within a text, between text and other texts, and between text and world.

    8. Determine word meanings and analyze the effect of word choice on writing.
