AP PHOTOGRAPHY
Students learn ADVANCED principles of photography using black and white photographic materials, color film, and digital images. These principles include camera operation, composition, exposure and development of black and white film and paper, and print finishing techniques, negative scanning, print scanning, and Adobe Photoshop techniques. Students will begin to use the studio, explore experimental and alternative processes and picture-taking media, and focus on individual concentrations. Attention to advanced techniques such as split-filtering and dodging/burning will also be explored.
Most importantly, students will be encouraged to critically think about meaning and purpose in their own work by refining and rethinking ideas and concepts. Much of this course will be centered on the goal of conceptualizing and creating meaningful work. Students will be looking at the work of contemporary and historical photographers who have been successful in this framework. Students will be asked to look deeply into what they can accomplish by taking a photo, through a social context, a historical context, or within a personal framework.
