The AP examination is considered part of the AP Language and Composition course at Columbine High School. You will be expected to take it. In order that you may prepare as necessary, the fee for the exam is approximately $95.00; this year's fee was either collected at registration or you will need to pay it mid-March.
Exam Statistics
The exam consists of a 60-minute multiple-choice section followed by a free-response section where you will write three essays in 2 hours and 15 minutes. The exam is scored on a five-point scale with a score of three or higher considered passing. The AP English Language exam is difficult; it is designed to test your completion of college-level composition coursework. On average, 55% of students in the nation pass the exam with a score of three or better. At Columbine High School, students fare better. Typically, approximately 80% or more of CHS students score three or higher.
College Credit
Most colleges offer credit for successful completion of the exam; some will exempt you from pre-requisite classes. Each school has its own policy, so you should research schools you are interested in attending. You may learn the current policy for a given school here:
The AP Language and Composition exam is typically administered on a Wednesday during the second week of May, at 8:00 a.m. in the library.
