As leaders influence their schools to move to increased levels of collaboration and learning it is important to remember, “clarity precedes competence”, and clarity must exist around the right things. The PLC Implementation Continuum provides a developmental roadmap to implement the Five Essential Elements Rick Dufour defined as “tights” that must be in place in a school in order to become a high functioning Professional Learning Community.
The PLC Continuum is a third point reference that:
is the hub for the PLC cycle of continuous improvement.
is a developmental coaching tool to help schools and collaborative teams to move forward towards higher levels of collaborative PLC practice.
minimizes variance in team practice and assure development of common vocabulary leading to greater levels of practice.
invites problem solving, capacity building, and support as teams shift from dependence to independence.
allows for proactive dialogue around PLC success criteria.
