Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
One of my primary goals as a Physical Educator is to teach every child, from the physically gifted to the physically challenged, how and why they should keep themselves healthy and fit throughout their lifetime. The Physical Education program is a cooperative venture between the Physical Education/DAPE Specialist, classroom teacher, and the students. Your child will be involved in a structured physical education class, which will incorporate both original units and lessons specific to Physical Education, as well as units or lessons that correspond with the topics studied in the classroom. In our Physical Education program, we provide learning experiences which are developmentally appropriate that will teach children how to be physically active in ways that increase physical competence, self-esteem, and joy through lifelong physical activity. Please go to the North Star Physical Education website for all upcoming and important information regarding your child’s Physical Education experience:
The goals for our students in Physical Education are:
To emphasize fun while increasing students’ levels of physical fitness that allows them to remain continuously active and successful.
To teach knowledge of skills, rules, and strategies when playing a game or activity and emphasizing the self-satisfaction of giving one’s best effort, regardless of winning or losing.
To help all students become aware of their capabilities while participating in various activities.
To promote positive student interactions through physical activity and the understanding of morals and values.
To help students find activities they can play outside of school in a community setting that develops into a lifelong skill.
In order for all students to have a safe and positive experience in Physical Education, the following expectations will need to be followed:
All students will listen to and follow the instructor’s directions.
All students will be respectful and cooperate with classmates and the instructor.
All students will display a positive attitude while maintaining self-control and attempt and try their best in all of the activities.
All students will participate in the activities scheduled unless a written excuse is given. If an illness or injury persists, please have a doctor’s note explaining the restrictions your child has.
All students have been reminded that they must wear tennis shoes and socks during their Physical Education class. This rule is for his/her own safety as well as the safety of the other students. No high heels (including wedges), clogs, boots, or sandals will be permitted and the student will be asked to sit out for that day. Tennis shoes must fit well and stay on the student during the activity.
By working together to encourage fitness and exercising, I am certain we will be able to help your child(ren) enjoy a lifetime of physical activity! If I can be of any assistance to you, or if you have special concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I welcome your support.
Sincerely,
Mr. Scott Hoeg
