Math:
Each Week - 'Homework' will be sent home for your child to complete. Please look at it when they are finished to see if they need help with any skills before it is returned to school. At the beginning of each Unit - You will receive a 'Parent Letter' to keep you updated on things we are learning.
Reading:
Each Week - Your child will bring home two white paper decodable readers (focuses on sight words and spelling patterns). Your child will read this to you and keep it at home in their plastic shoebox tote to reread often to practice sight words and fluency.
Every Month - Reading Calendar: Your child should read EVERY day for a minimum of 20 minutes. They will record the minutes they read, the minutes they are read to, or the minutes they read to others. Adults should help total the minutes read for the month and have their child return the calendar at the end of the month. Students who read 200 minutes or more will receive a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. No additional purchase is necessary, you may order for just your child and pick it up in the restaurant or in the drive thru.
Every Five Weeks - At the end of every unit, a set of Sight Words Flash Cards will be sent home to continue practice. You can download and print extra sets of flash cards by visiting the 'Language Arts' tab to access a .pdf for each unit. Your child should practice their sight words often. They should keep them in their plastic shoebox tote or in another safe storage place to reread often It is very important to practice sight word recognition (say the word in less than 3 seconds) and sight word fluency (reading as many sight words in one minute as possible.)
Spelling:
Every Monday - pre-test. Every Friday - final test. Spelling words to practice at home are listed on the weekly language arts "Home Letter" that is sent home every Monday.
Misc:
