A language arts "Home Letter" will come home in your child's orange folder every Monday. This letter explains the skills, sight words, and spelling words we will be working on during the week. There is an "Activities to Do Together" section at the bottom; have fun doing these activities with your child at home during the week and throughout the weekend. :)
**Home Letters are also available to download using the links below.**
Spelling words/sight words will come home every week. Please remind your child to store them in a safe place (an empty cereal box or a basket work great for a "Game Box.") Your child should practice reading them to you every night.
I will assess sight word knowledge at the beginning of each unit and at the end of each unit. Each unit lasts for five weeks. A full set of flash cards will come home at the end of every unit. I will also send home a progress letter with their score and any words they need to continue to work on. There are 6 units in the reading curriculum and new sight words will be taught every week throughout the school year.
Practicing sight words at home daily is an important routine in second grade. Thank you for your support in helping your child become a strong reader! :)
**If REVIEW is needed: first grade Sight Word Flash Cards are available to download/print at home. They are located in the "Language Arts" tab.**
