My name is Mrs. Phillips. This is my 14th year teaching English as a New Language (ENL). I moved from Utica, NY to Northern NY in 2009 to begin teaching ENL at the Indian River Central School District. I'm so happy I did because it's a wonderful place to learn.
I received my BA in English from Utica College, where I also obtained my teaching certification in ESOL K-12 (English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have experience working with children and adult English Language Learners from all over the world! I am also certified to teach English to teens from grades 7-12. In 2012, I received my MA in Literacy. This has helped me better understand readers who struggle and how to teach them.
I love to travel, learn about other cultures, and study languages. I have been to Canada, England, France, and Ireland. While in France and parts of Canada, I had to rely on my French language skills to get around. It was very difficult, but I learned so much! This experience helps me relate to my students. I still study French and like going to Canada to practice as often as I can. I am also trying to learn more Spanish and Irish.
I live in Theresa, NY with my husband, daughter, and two cats. I love to travel, write, read, garden, cook, and do arts and crafts. I'm also a bit of a geek. I really enjoy reading fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, and comic books. I'm obsessed with mythology and ancient history. I also love to read manga and watch anime.
