Focuses on academic and thematic essential questions

• • Incorporates multiple modes of writing and literary genres

  • Integrates grammar, vocabulary and Greek & Latin word parts

  • Reinforces the importance of research

  • Examines the use of technology for learning and communicating (sharing)

  • Assesses student mastery of essential skills through Guided Written Tasks and District Common Assessment 

Unit One: “The Meaning of Memory”

• • What is memory? 

  • How do individuals and society decide what will be remembered?

Unit Two: “The Weight of Acceptance”

• • What role do group norms play in the acceptance of ourselves and others?

  • What outweighs the desire to be accepted by others?

Unit Three: “My Mask, Myself”

• • What purposes do masks serve?

  • Is it more beneficial or harmful to wear a mask?

Unit Four: “The Road to Perseverance” 

• • Why do some people persevere while others are unsuccessful? 

  • What can we learn from the perseverance of others to help us overcome our own adversity in today’s world? 

Resources

• • • Non-fiction, fiction, poetry, art, music, and multimedia from a wide variety of resources, including the textbook Literature and Language.

    • Unit texts will be used to teach grammar and writing styles
