Overview of 7th Grade ELA

• • Focuses on academic and thematic essential questions

  • Includes a wide variety of texts in genres (fiction and non) and modes (short story, novels, multimedia)

  • Incorporates multiple modes of writing and literary genres

  • Integrates grammar, vocabulary and Greek & Latin word parts

  • Examines the use of technology for learning and communicating

  • Assesses student mastery of essential skills through skills assessments and culminating tasks.

Unit Two: “Brown Girl Dreaming"

• Essential Question: How does the time and place in which we live shape our story? 

Unit Three: “Social Media: Risks and Rewards"

• Essential Question: Is social media more risky or more rewarding for teens? How can we promote teens making better decisions online? 

Unit Four: “Influential Voices"

• Essential Question: How does a speaker motivate or persuade their audience? 

Unit Five: “School Electives- Which One Matters Most?"

• Essential Question: How do different electives motivate students and prepare them for the future?
