Welcome to team 7-1 PA ELA with Mrs. Lindstrom and Mrs. Malpica!
Overview of 7th Grade PA ELA
Focuses on academic and thematic essential questions
Incorporates multiple modes of writing and literary genres
Integrates grammar and vocabulary
Reinforces the importance of research
Examines the use of technology for learning and communicating (sharing)
Assesses student mastery of essential skills through Written Tasks and District Common Assessments
Unit One: “Internalizing Perspectives Creates Empathy”
Students will encounter various perspectives of fictional characters and real-life subjects in order to build their own perspectives about others and develop a broader sense of empathy.
Unit Two: “Perspectives Change”
Students will come away understanding that initial perspectives and impressions are subject to change. Life experiences over time add depth and complexity to the way in which humans perceive the world around them. Though the value of changing perspectives is personal, the overall influences are similar from one individual to the next.
Unit Three: “Ethics and Morality Influence Perspective”
Students will discuss and understand what ethics and morality are along with where these come from. Discussions will also focus on why people compromise their sense of morality and how they deal with that choice.
Unit Four: “Perspectives on Humanity Differ”
Students will continue to understand what humanity is and why people should care about it. The focus will be on how an individual’s point of view (e.g. their views on prejudice, injustice, stereotypes, etc.) affect their perspective of humanity.
