2016 We Grow Hawai‘i Conference
On Saturday, April 30, 2016, ‘Iolani School in partnership with the Kōkua Hawai‘i Foundation proudly hosted the first annual We Grow Hawai‘i Youth Garden Conference. A student-led conference for grades K-8, close to thirty students from nine schools on Oahu presented to other students and garden educators about their school garden experiences through individual and group presentations, and a few hands-on activities.
While Hawai‘i school garden conferences have been held annually for the past eight years, this was the first conference to give young students a voice. Short video presentations from students on the outer Hawaiian Islands as well as the Marshall Islands were also featured, and presentation topics ranged from hydroponic and aquaponic systems, to zero waste initiatives, vegetable recipes, aiding volunteer community service projects, pest investigations, and general school garden fun! School garden tours were also offered to attendees earlier in the day through the Kōkua Hawai‘i Foundation's ‘ĀINA In Schools Program.
Available below are some materials from the conference that either presenters, or organizers wanted to make available to the public. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us HERE.
Thank you for your support of school gardens!
