Marching Band

INDEPENDENCE MUSTANG MARCHING BAND

The Mustang Marching Band begins its season with a series of three two-day overnight camps for Color Guard, and Drumline. The full band starts with a four day marching camp where we learn as much of the music and drill as possible. The remainder of the drill is learned at an all-day drill camp the 2nd or 3rd Saturday in August. Once school starts, the marching band rehearses approximately 30 minutes during each school day and one evening per week. The Mustang Marching Band will compete five to six competitions each year.

One of the main ingredients to having a successful band year is to start with the development of student leaders. We have a leadership expert, Alan Feirer from Winterset, IA, come for an 8 hour leadership retreat to arm the student leaders with a wealth of knowledge. They learn the importance of service to our organization, develop measurable goals for the year, and hold each other accountable for staying on track for the pursuit of excellence.

2017 MUSTANG MARCHING BAND

Show Theme: “Step Right Up”

This year’s marching show depicts a creepy circus. The color guard plays the role of the evil ring masters. They lure the band members into the Big Top and trap them into their tent for eternity.

The show uses familiar tunes and classical music themes to take the audience on this frightening trip to the big top. The show is organized into three movements:

    1. Dies Irae
    2. Mad World
    3. Ritual Fire Dance/Mozart Mash Up

Our Soloists this year are trumpeters Caroline Reyner, Savannah Astleford, and Ana Beatty, and color guard soloist Jenessa Barloon. We would also like to thank band member Michael Dinger for his help creating the dubstep in movement three.
