- In case I didn’t explain this, Shakespeare never titled his sonnet so his sonnets are references by the order in which they were written, hence the numbers, or the first line of the poem. Therefore, when looking up your sonnet look it up the number you signed up for or were assigned. Ex: Shakespeare Sonnet ###
