Dear Parents/Guardians,
We hope that you and your family had an enjoyable summer. This school year, we are going to promote the 100 Book Challenge to include the children in grades Pre-Kindergarten 3 through Fourth Grade. In the previous years, the children have been very excited about their accomplishment. The 100 Book Challenge is a program which can develop the children's reading ability as well as encourage the children to read more frequently. The United States Department of Education reported that at every age level, reading more in school and at home each day was associated with higher reading scores.
How the 100 Book Challenge works is the child reads a book of his/her choice and then it gets recorded on a Reading Log, by the person who saw, heard or actually read the book to the student. The students can get the initial Reading Log Form in the Library. The Reading Log has a space for a total of 40 books. Once both sides of the Reading Log are completely filled out, the child can return it to the Library and I will give the student another blank Reading Log to complete until a hundred books have been read. Once the Reading Log is completed, the student can return it to the Library. The students have the entire school year to complete the 100 Book Challenge. I will keep the completed Reading Log Forms on file in the Library. Another plus, the children will receive rewards for their efforts!
We are hoping that by sponsoring the 100 Book Challenge, more children will acquire a love for reading which can only be a benefit for the children. If you have any questions about the 100 Book Challenge, please feel free to contact me through school. Thank you and have a blessed school year!
Respectfully,
Mrs. Adele Binns
