Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to a new school year!  I am genuinely looking forward to seeing the students again!  Hope everyone had a relaxing summer.  During Library class the students will be learning about a different Theme, Author and Saint each week.  I update my web page weekly with what will be covered in the Library.  This year I intend to concentrate on the Dewey Decimal System and using the electronic card catalog so the students will independently be able to locate their favorite book.  Two new things going on in the Library this year will be a special section of the Library reserved for Graphic Novels.  The children seem to enjoy reading the Graphic Novels.  They are a quick read.  Also, there will be an opportunity for the students to fill out a "book review" on one of the books they have read.  Once the student completes the review, it will be placed in a prominent place in the Library.

Once again the students will have the opportunity to celebrate their birthday in the Library by signing up for the Birthday Book Club.  During the first week of school, the students will be receiving a letter explaining how the Birthday Book Club works.  The children will also have the chance to participate in the 100 Book Challenge.  Students get very excited when Mr. Foley presents them with a medal during Mass once they have completed the challenge.   There will also be a letter coming home explaining the 100 Book Challenge as well.  Students can pick up a 100 Book Challenge Form to keep a record of the books they have read in the Library.

If  you have any questions regarding the above information, please feel free to contact me via my email address: abinns@iheartmary.org.  Thank you for sending your children to Immaculate Heart of Mary School.  May God continue to bless our Immaculate Heart of Mary School and Parish families.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Adele Binns
