In our days of uncertainty and division, Advent arrives just in time, inviting us to enter the mystery it holds. Through the liturgical calendar we don’t simply retell salvation history. No, we yearn with Israel, longing as they did generation after generation. We ache with the Old Testament saints, Abraham, Sarah, Rahab, Moses, Miriam, and Isaiah, indeed the communion of saints. But to be genuine we must take stock first of the pain, chaos, and danger of the world that they knew and that startlingly reflects our own. The next four Sunday bulletins will feature Advent Discipleship Challenge 2025, a day-by-day guide for doing just that; with reflections written by fellow parishioners. Each day concludes with practical action steps to assist us. Let us prepare for a good Advent this week by making the last verse of the entire Bible our daily mantra: “Maranatha! Our Lord, come!” (Rev 22:20).
