Food Safety & Preparation
Students will learn where food really comes from, and how to choose wisely for nutritional value. They will learn how to save money when purchasing food. They will be using reliable internet resources to learn about the nutritional content of food and how to read & prepare recipes.
Students will be able to: Work on teams to cooperatively plan and implement cooking labs using time management, safety, accuracy and positive interpersonal skills.
Students will use math skills to revise recipes and measure dry and liquid ingredients accurately.
Students will practice the following skills before, during and after their labs:
Setting a table correctly.
Working as a team.
Managing time and resources wisely.
Following food safety and sanitation guidelines.
Students will compare recipes from across the globe using:
*Students will use choosemyplate.gov to construct nutritionally balanced menus.
