Students will earn their grade in three different ways:
1. Performance assessments - In Discovery Science we rarely have a sit down test or quiz where students are interacting with a sheet of paper via a pencil. However, we do have times where students demonstrate their knowledge, skills, or understanding on a topic or concept by performance (i.e. presentation, video, planned speech, keynote). This is 80% of a students' overall grade. Re-doing or re-taking these assessments are not available.
2. Practice - These assignments will prepare students for their performance assessments. These activities and group activities will show comprehension and understanding and where students need improvement. These are important, just as you would go to a sports practice. To get better, we need practice, even in science! This section is worth 20% of a students' overall grade.
3. Work Ethic and Classroom Behavior - These areas are measured for each student in Unacceptable, Needs Work, Proficient, and Excellent. Students will be measured on use of class time, coming prepared, homework completion, respect of others and the teacher, and other classroom related areas that allow for all students to operate in an environment conducive to learning.
