What: A fundraiser for our tennis teams. We’re not selling anything; we’re politely asking people to support our efforts by making a donation. Or, even better, we’re creatively thinking of ways to earn their support (doing chores we might not normally do, raking leaves in our neighborhood, sitting with some babies, giving someone’s kid a few tennis pointers, etc.). This is a chance for you to contribute to your team by working hard to gather support from friends, family, and members of the community.
What It’s Not: This is not supposed to be you asking your parents to cut a big check so that you don’t have to fiddle with fundraising. If your parents (or anyone else) wants to cut a big check because they want to support the team, great. But that shouldn’t affect your efforts to work hard to think of other ways to raise funds. Your goal should be to raise as much as possible while gathering support for our tennis team/program from various sources in and around the community.
Why: We’re conducting this fundraiser for two reasons. 1) It gives you an opportunity to think about (and act on) what it means to be a team member, one who truly supports the team and its purpose. 2) We need the funds to be able to do things like have team-building activities, pay for travel expenses for overnight stays, pay for food, pay for tennis supplies we need, etc.
When: Funds will be collected by players starting once our teams have been selected at the end of the tryout process, and then payment for those funds will be submitted online--see directions below--by Friday, Oct. 22nd, at 3:00. That should give you plenty of time to talk to people, raise money, and see friends and relatives and such who might want to donate.
How: Gather funds leading up to the deadline (Oct. 22nd) and then make a single payment online (see directions below) to account for all the funds you gathered.
What Not To Do: Don’t sell stuff (food, candy, or anything else), particularly on the school grounds and/or during the school day. There are very strict rules about that sort of thing, and we’re going to avoid that altogether by having a very strict rule of our own: DON’T SELL ANYTHING FOR THIS FUNDRAISER! (The ONLY exception I can imagine for this rule would be if you were to hold some sort of garage sale to raise funds for the tennis team, but once again, that wouldn’t be on school grounds or during the school day in any way.)
What’s at Stake: The top three fundraisers on each team (boys and girls) will form our two uniform committees, and they’ll be the ones to make the decisions about what our uniforms will be for the season. Whichever team (boys or girls) raises the most overall will also select the logo/lettering used on all of our items for this season.
