Mission Statement:
Mission
Through engaging, relevant, student-centered learning experiences, the Wellness program will support every student’s health-related knowledge acquisition, skill development and critical thinking about attitudes, values and beliefs. Our goal is to produce growth-oriented, confident, resilient, empathetic, self-directed, socially responsible and productive citizens with a lifelong commitment to physical activity, and health-enhancing habits and behaviors within multiple dimensions of wellness.
Beliefs
We believe in:
Educating the whole student child through a robust and rigorous Wellness program that includes health education, physical education and social emotional learning
Ongoing review and revision of Wellness curriculum in order to ensure that we are meeting the changing needs of students
Creating safe, supportive, positive, inclusive learning environments that embrace diversity and meet the needs of all learners
Providing opportunities for self-challenge, growth and development, and success
Addressing multiple dimensions of wellness all of which are interconnected and equally important in students’ overall health and well-being
Valuing physical activity for its contributions to students’ physical health but also to students’ mental health and academic success
Promoting lifelong fitness, physical activity and movement
Empowering students to be personally and socially responsible and to make a difference in the world
Engaging families as well as the school and broader Holliston community in addressing student wellness
Collaborating across disciplines to support student learning
The goal of the middle school Wellness program is to make
students aware of Wellness as a lifetime commitment. This will be
accomplished by offering students activities and information that will
provide them with the tools to make healthy choices.
What is Wellness ? -Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of, and
making choices toward, a more successful existence in the physical,
spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual, and occupational/leisure domains
