Reader's Workshop
Hillsborough City will begin using the Reading Workshop program this year. The program has four units of study. Each unit tackles a different genre and teaching points that allow students to dig deep within their reading. The units include:
- Analyzing theme in fiction
- Tackling complexity in non-fiction
- Researching debatable ideas
- Finding the magic of themes and symbols in fantasy texts
The reading units of study go hand in hand with our writing curriculum.
In addition to reading at home, students will read 30-40 minutes in class daily as a portion of our workshop time. Students will complete a reading log for homework, which should be signed-off by a parent or guardian. The students will also be given a spiral notebook in which they are expected to journal about their reading during workshop time.
Spelling
Spelling will occur on 5 day weeks. On Monday, each student will take a pre-test using Spelling City. Students will be expected to study on their own at home. They may use the various games on Spelling City to prepare for their final test on Friday. Good Luck!
