Teachers and Parents,
Crocker Middle School is dedicated to making our school a safe haven for students who need a place to learn about the thoughts, anxieties, and realities of being a pre-teen in today's society. We are creating a place online, and in our library, for students to check out resources, tools, and materials to help them navigate through the emotional roller-coaster called "middle school".
This page is a resource for parents and educators, full of resources for helping our students through middle school. Please feel free to browse these websites for additional information on:

OUR (draft) SEL MISSION STATEMENT
Please add any bulleted information regarding SEL that you feel should be included in our Mission Statement. Everyone should have a voice in its creation.
Because of our SEL Program, Crocker Students will be able to:
*Persevere during times of difficulty, frustration and failure.
*Practice strategies for dealing with difficulties, frustrations and failures.
*Develop Growth Mindset, optimism, and receptive frame of mind vs Fixed Mindset Thinking.
*See challenges as opportunities rather than roadblocks (internal locus of control vs. helplessness, or “victim” thinking).
*Experience a school environment that inspires happy and healthy relationships with peers, allows for individual freedom of expression, offers fair and empathic support, teaches and rewards effective communication, and provides learning experiences designed to help make each student feel that they are the most important person in the community.

Linda’s comments: I like the direction this is taking. My mind is working to classify it and boil it down to its essential elements that so that I can keep a version of it always in the forefront of my mind. What I’m seeing at the top is intrapersonal and then it naturally leads into interpersonal. I think both are critical. Students need to be able to take care of themselves and also be kind and compassionate members of the larger community. I don’t want to tamper with someone else’s work, so I’m copying and pasting it below with the ideas roughly organized into categories.
Intrapersonal:
Strategies for persevering, coping, growing and making good choices
Persevere during times of difficulty, frustration and failure.
Practice strategies for dealing with difficulties, frustrations and failures.
Develop Growth Mindset, optimism, and receptive frame of mind vs Fixed Mindset Thinking.
See challenges as opportunities rather than roadblocks (internal locus of control vs. helplessness, or “victim” thinking).
Develop self-awareness and self-management skills to achieve school and life success, including knowing when to ask for help, and where to go to find resources for help.
Develop attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals,
Abstain from drug use and other unhealthy coping strategies, violence, bullying
Interpersonal:
Handling conflict and treating others with kindness and respect
Having self-awareness about emotional states, and knowing how to not to “escalate” but rather, ride out the emotional wave, and how to use helpful self-soothing strategies..
Use social-awareness and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships, and avoid being “swept by emotional waves” of feeling.
Demonstrate responsible and less impulsive decision-making skills and responsible behaviors in personal, school, family, and community contexts.
Be able to feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships
