This course will introduce the experienced art student to some of the basic techniques and skills of manipulating metals for jewelry. The skills of designing and shaping metals, as well as joining, soldering and casting will be experienced. Various tools as well as fabrication techniques will be instructed. This course will have many safety issues and should not be taken for a quick and easy credit.
There may be a basic course fee of ten dollars per student. In addition, some projects will have a charge based on the precious materials used.
Grading and project evaluation will be determined by obvious student improvement & demonstrated skills. Of course, creative problem solving will be expected.
The Daily Dose entries will also be a strong part of this course. This will include a simple paper dealing with class lectures.
Be aware that some aspects of the class projects may be worked on at home.
