The goal of Diversification requirements is to ensure "that every student has a broad exposure to different domains of academic knowledge, while at the same time allowing flexibility in choice of courses for students with different goals and interests" (UHM 2017-2018 catalog, pg. 28).

A diversification designation is possible for any course that meets the basic Course Eligibility Criteria. Consideration of a course for a particular Diversification area is guided by the Diversification area hallmarks and explanatory notes described in the following links. These hallmarks are also collectively archived in a PDF at the bottom of this page.
