FYI....Our academic programs have an Instructional Technology Support office site to help with Laulima, however, the Edvance Instructors have different needs and therefore a different audience. You need to be mindful that some tools may or may not be parallel to the Instructional Technology Support office.
For our purposes of Edvance, we standardize the online sites. If you have other thoughts on the standard template you are welcome to review it with the curriculum developer at nevas@hawaii.edu by appointment. Or you can email the Edvance office at edvance@hawaii.edu to assist you with contacting the curriculum developer.
To get a better understanding about Laulima the UH system created this comprehensive help page with other how to videos and written steps. But keep in mind that the site is designed for the academic program instructors. Therefore, it is helpful but some things may not be useful for you.

To get a better understanding about Laulima the UH system created this comprehensive Video on things to be mindful for with this Learning Management Tool. Also, keep in mind that this video is created for the academic program, but the basics of the process are things we all should know.
These are some of the topics covered in the Video:
What is the best way to log into Laulima?

In this section we will go over how to input the participants to your course site. It is important that you follow the guidelines on how to do this as some of you that have taught in on the academic side of our Kauhale have a Laulima Site automatically created and sent to you. However, the courses on the academic side of the college is linked to their registration and records where Edvance has itʻs own registration and records linked to another type of software. Therefore, participants need to be added manually. And, if there is a change where a participant needs to withdraw then it needs to be done manually.
The UH system has created an Instructor help list that is designed for Teaching Faculty and I will place into this site basic instructional help that will make more sense to our Edvance Instructors. But, you are always welcomed to view other links in the site. There are both written and video links to watch but, some of the video footage are from other colleges that created them and use the same LMS. (Learning Management Tool - Laulima)
Keep in mind that you should have received an email from the Edvance office to share with you the links to the registration portal. It will allow you to see the enrollment status and the students/participants information to manually add them to your course site. If you havenʻt recieved the links feel free to contact the Edvance office.
If you prefer here is a video to help you add a participant if you prefer:
Here is the link to the written information from the UH System How to add participants to your course site
In the event that the student/Participant withdraws you will need to manually withdraw the participant. Here is a short video to help you with that.
You may have more than one course for Laulima and may want to organize your Tabs to show up or hide. Here is a written link and a video to help you navigate.
This is the written version from UH system How To Show or Hide your Course in Lauima.
This video is devided into 4 topics and if you just need to recap Iʻve added the time in which each category shows up in the training video
Add: 0.0min- 2.26min
Move: 2.26min - 2.50min
Rename: 2.50min - 4.49min
Delete: 4.49min - until the end
Here is the Youtube link https://youtu.be/DoqdNARdFVk, or you can just watch the video below.
Below is a written hardcopy that shows screenshots on what steps to go through to move and rename pages from the UH system.

In this section you will be able to see how to organize your folders and what you would like to add to your course site. These short videos will help you suit the needs of your course. Just remember that anything that you want the students/participants to be able to see in your site must be placed in your resource folder for access and downloadability.

There are 3 ways in which to create viewable Syllabus in your course site that I showed you in the training session. Here is a short review below to help refresh your memory or if you would like to try other ways to embed your Syllabus.
The videos below will show you have to set that up.
Some of you may need to use Evaluation Tools for certification and/or to give out certificates for workforce education.
The videos below will refresh your memory on:
Assignments, Tests and Quizzes, and Gradebook Classic to your course Site.
Gradebook set up
Linking Tests and Assignments to the Lessonʻs Page
Here is the first video on Evaluation tools which just means anything you may want to use in your course to assess if your participants are getting the point of your course. In most cases, the Non-Credit courses range from Adult Enrichment to Workforce Credentialing. Therefore, think about what and why you are teaching the course and how to make your course content engaging and helpful for your participants to gain the valuable information you are sharing with them. You want them to leave your course wanting to take this information and use it in their daily world.
You are giving them another avenue to LEARN - GROW - ACHIEVE
There are many different courses that Edvance offers, and unlike the academic side of the community college, some of the features can be as intensive for credentialing for industry and other courses may just need some less intensive features for personal enrichment. However, if you need to add the evaluation methods then this video will help you decide what will be the best option for your course topic.
There are two ways to create Tests & Quizzes:
Manually set up the questions in the question pool one by one
Use a markup text to upload into the question pool
The video below will show you how to use a markup text and I have also included a link for you to download a copy of the markup test which you are welcome to use as a copy template.
his second way to build your exam or quiz can be done manually. The preference is really up to you.
This video is almost 20 minutes long but the breakdown of creating the quiz or test is as follows:
The time of 0:00 - 10.10 is using the settings to give the rules you want for your test to the participants before building the questions in your test or quiz.
The time of 10:10-19:36 is creating the question and how questions pools could work for you.
Now that you have your Quiz or Test Built into Laulima, We will move on to linking the Test or Quiz to one of the pages in your course site. Please watch the video below
After receiving your confirmation that you have enough participants to run the course. Then you will need to import and publish the content into your "live" site so that the tools you have chosen will function well. Also, it is recommended that you check the links to make sure they did not break in the import of your course site.
Also, as a reminder after the import that you will need to manually create your Overview page. And, if you didnʻt use the Lauima Resources folder to link your Syllabus, you may also have relink that into your course site. Otherwise, youʻll be set with your course.
IF you have any questions after the videos and/or the written instructions feel free to contact me for an appointment.
