Message From Moderator

Dear HHS Marauders,

I would give you a “warm welcome” but it’s way too hot outside. Here’s an air conditioned, frozen lemonade-flavored, WELCOME (BACK) to Hanover High School. I hope everybody had a chill summer vacation.

I’m pumped to be your Council Moderator for this school year. Council is an elected body of students, staff, and community members that was founded over 40 years ago. We pass motions to improve daily life at HHS, but we also fuel discussions about ideas that don’t necessarily require any action from Council. Anybody can speak at a Council meeting, so please stop by to offer your input on motions that you feel strongly about.

That said, in order to be heard here, you have to hear. Challenge yourself to listen to everybody around you in order to be an informed citizen. I respect our school’s Minds, Hearts, and Voices mission, but I’m shocked that our ears aren’t included in that statement.

I’m not just promoting active listening during Common Ground announcements, algebra lessons, and sports meetings. I want you to listen to your peers who might be struggling on the inside. The first month of school is draining for everyone. We work from September through late December without any week-long vacations. Take care of yourselves, take care of each other. Eat. Sleep. RELAX.

PS - The gummy bears at the Co-op are legendary. It’s impossible to eat them without smiling. Freshmen: I’ll grab you some if you’re ever in a pinch.

All my best,

Henry Lang
