Welcome to French 3 & 3H, an advanced language course designed to develop skills in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing the French language. Our culture studies for the year will focus on XIXth Century France, highlighting a different art form in each quarter: poetry in the first quarter, literature in the second, theater and opera in the third and art in the fourth.
The curriculum is similar for French 3 and 3H, but the pacing, grading system and workload requirements are different. These differences are explained in the Course Standards (PdF below) and elaborated throughout the year for each new type of assignment.
Below, please find the following folders for French 3/H: Organisation (Course Standards, Syllabus, Classeur Vérification), Culture, Verbes (List of verbs & FdV, template for verb practice) , Tactics (Conversation exercises; note that each Tactics assignment has 2 pages) and Key to Written Activities (a numbered key indicating corrections to be made on written work).
One hard copy of these documents (and most others throughout the year) will be distributed in class. Any additional copies must be downloaded and printed.
Grammar homework corrections (Corrections Amsco) will not be printed and distributed. They are posted on this page. We will go over the answers in class. If a student is absent, it is the students' responsibility to correct all Amsco assignments and seek any further explanation from the teacher during X periods, Activity periods or before/after school. Students are responsible for knowing this material for in-class oral drills and written quizzes and tests.
Grammar and vocabulary flashettes are available for Amsco quiz and test preparation in quizlet. Please bookmark this site. This quizlet provides vocabulary practice for the verbs in the Amsco appendix (FdV 1-24). To combine quizlets, see this video.
I highly recommend daily verb conjugation practice, in order to master the weekly verb quizzes and succeed on the mid-term and final exams. Many students find these online drills in Conjuguemos helpful. (The HHS Conjuguemos student code is 9822.)
Please visit my Sound Cloud site, book mark it and use it to prepare listening and speaking activities, such as poem recitations. Here is a link to the recitations for quarter one plus.
Here is tv5 7 jours sur la planète, a site with news and transcripts in French. We will use this site for reading and listening activities, indicated on the syllabus as tv5.
For reading and listening comprehension practice, here is a site with free audio books and transcripts in French. We will consult this site for some of our readings. Feel free to explore it on your own. Here are the audio version of Barbe Bleue and the audio version of La Parure, which we will read mid-year. For the quarter three recitation, here is the audio version of Cyrano's Tirade du Nez (monologue). And a helpful Youtube version featuring Depardieu.
Here is a Quia Page on Art for the images and information for the XIXth (19th) Century art history program in quarter 4. Students independently also often create and share art flash cards on other sites, such as Quizlet and Study blue.
Students in French 3H participate in the annual Poetry Recitation Contest. See the PDF below for this year's poem.
Students, if the is site is in any way incomplete, out of date, inaccessible or inadequate, please let me know immediately by email.
