Assessments for this year
There are several assessments planned for the year, and one big one that has been dropped.
Start Strong (shortened assessment of ELA and Math standards from last year's grade level.) Scheduled for October 4-8, to be completed in subject area classes.
Dynamic Learning Maps (IEP students only) September 13 - December 17.
NJSLA (NJ Student Learning Assessment) Scheduled for April 25 - May 20.
ACCESS for ELLs (ESL students only) March 1 - 31
LinkIt! Benchmark assessments, weeks of Sept 13, Jan 3, March 22
We will NOT be doing F&Ps this year, as they take an inordinate amount of time and I want to focus on the new reading program and its assessments instead.
Tech Stuff to note
We resubscribed to many of the programs we had last year, but dropped a few that were not heavily used. See the list of HPS-supported available programs here.
Chromebooks will NOT be going home each day. Plan your lessons and homework accordingly.
Contact Bill Miller or Angel for assistance if you need tech help, or if you need to gain access to a program.
Health and Safety Odds 'n Ends (See Health and Safety protocols presentation for full information.)
Classroom set up - please maintain spacing as well as possible in the beginning. This means rows instead of groups. Rugs are okay for lower grades.
Water bottles and Mask-Keeper lanyards are being provided by the school. Water fountains are only accessible by filling a water bottle, and the mask-keepers should be used to prevent students from misplacing their masks during lunch/recess.
Students should wear masks when entering and going through the lunch lines, but when they reach their assigned seat, they can take it off.
We won't be taking temperatures as people enter the building any more. Instead, teachers should do a quick check-in with students during attendance to see if anyone needs to visit the Health Office.
Instruction
Dealing with Learning Loss - Too Much Focus on Learning Loss Will Be a Historic Mistake from Eutopia; Overcoming Learning Loss from Education Week; Let's Stop Saying Learning Loss from AMLE;
Reentry concerns - Returning to full time, normalized instruction may not feel so normal to some students. This is a time to reconnect and reassure students that this is a safe place to be. Here are a few suggested community rebuilding lessons that may help: K-1, 2-3, 4-5, and middle school. These resources are provided by the Committee for Children.
