Required Materials: An organized notebook with dividers, an agenda or daily planner, writing utensils, and notebook paper.

Course Description: This class represents a college-preparatory workload and explores the world of stage, theater, and drama. Students will be evaluated on their ability to master various dramatic forms, perform monologues and short scripts, and produce written work that illustrates knowledge of the theater and dramatic techniques..

Course Requirements: The student is expected to arrive on time with the appropriate materials and completed assignments. The student is also expected to work to the best of her ability during the entire class period. Homework on a regular basis will be assigned, and student can expect unannounced quizzes and checks of their notebook. Students are also expected to keep notes and all work, even when graded, in their notebooks.

Behavior Guidelines: Within a classroom setting, a community must be built upon mutual respect and common decency. Each class will develop a set of rules and guidelines that will be used to govern acceptable behavior for the students and the instructor. These rules are mutable, but they establish the framework for how learning can best be achieved. There are several concepts that are not negotiable: (1) Diversity within the community is to be celebrated, not threatened or simply tolerated, (2) Open and honest relationships are the only way to build a community, and (3) The ultimate goal of the class should be improving the quality of life for all involved.

Attendance Policy: Students should be aware of and adhere to the school’s mandatory attendance policy as described in the student handbook and student code of conduct. It is the student’s responsibility to request assignments missed due to excused absences.

Make-up Work:

All make-up work must be completed within five school days after the student returns. All make-up tests and quizzes will be scheduled at the teacher’s convenience with the student having at least 24-hours notice. Field trip absences only get one day to make up work. If you miss class, it is your responsibility to request the make-up work and return it in a timely fashion.

Grading System: All grades for the class will be calculated out of 100 possible points unless extra credit is available. Daily grades will constitute 40% of the final grade, major tests and projects will constitute 40% of the final grade, and the final examination will be 20% of the overall grade.

Academic Dishonesty: Plagiarism is the representation by a student of another’s ideas or writing as his own. Basically, two types of plagiarism are common. The first, which is more serious, involves a deliberate attempt on the part of a student to pass off as his own the writing of ideas of another person (student, parent, published or unpublished author, et al). This type generally consists of the straight copying of slight paraphrasing of a source that the student attempts to conceal. The second results from the student’s lack of attention to proper procedures for source acknowledgements and use, involving one or more technical errors, The student in this case fails to acknowledge indebtedness to outside material. Both types of plagiarism are serious violations of the principles of academic integrity. They will not be tolerated. Penalties, especially for those involved in deliberate plagiarism, may be quite severe.
