Students are writing narratives in flex time the first quarter. We are working on writing with a logical sequence (beginning, middle, and ending), details, transitions, descriptive words, and correct grammar. Below you will see the narrative writing rubric which will be used to grade your student's writing.
During the second quarter, students will be working on an informative essay about a Revolutionary War topic.
In November, students will be working on a creative writing opinion letter. Their job is to convince "Farmer Gifford" to either eat or not eat a turkey. We are working a lot in class on the first draft, brainstormed ideas together, and will be showing me a first draft organizer which I will edit with them before they type their final letter. Most students will be typing their draft before Thanksgiving, but time will be given after Thanksgiving for students to finalize their writing.
Third Quarter writing focus will be on an informational essay about a President of the United States.
Fourth Quarter writing focus will be on fine-tuning opinion writing skills and preparing for the end of year testing writing assessment.
