Units of Study (MA State Standards)
I. Decision Making (Standard #5/ Standard #9)
Students will be able to identify the five steps in making healthy decisions and apply to real world situations
Students will be able to make rational decisions that promote personal physical, emotional and social well-being
II. Sexuality/ Reproduction (Standard #4)
Students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to make effective personal decisions that promote their emotional, sexual and reproductive health
Students will be able to sequence the events of the entire reproductive cycle
III. Substance Abuse (Standard #10)
Students will recognize that avoiding risky behaviors such as smoking, drinking and other substance use can contribute to good reproductive life later in life
Students will understand the negative impact alcohol has on making sound decisions (example: alcohol use increases the likelihood of risky behaviors)
IV. Disease Prevention and Control (Standard #8)
Students will discuss and understand the benefits of abstinence and setting limits
Students will recognize short and long term consequences of sexually transmitted infections (diseases)
Students will identify the risky behaviors associated with sexually transmitted infections (disease)
V. Personal Safety (teen dating/ abuse) (Standard #9)
Students will understand and identify the different types of abuse
Students will identify healthy versus unhealthy relationships
