Who should take Project Lead the Way?
PLTW courses are appropriate for students interested in engineering or architecture, and focus on engaging all students in activities, projects, and problem-based (APPB) learning, which provides hands-on classroom experiences. Students in regular or honors level math and science classes, and with strong study habits are invited to enroll.
Why take Project Lead the Way?
PLTW courses engage students in hands-on activities, projects and problems; empower them to solve real-world challenges; and inspire them to reimagine how they see themselves.
GBS offers a variety of pre-engineering courses designed to promote critical thinking, creativity, innovation, communication, collaboration and real-world problem solving skills. Students create, design, build, discover, collaborate and solve problems while applying what they learn in math and science. The experience students gain in PLTW courses prepares them for college and career, providing a greater ability to succeed in college. Students will have the opportunity to receive college credit, preferred admission and scholarships as colleges and universities actively seek PLTW students.
Research has shown that students taking PLTW courses have significantly higher reading, math and science scores on standardized tests and in their high school courses, as well as greater success in college with much higher retention rates and grade-point-averages.
AP + PLTW Achievement Recognition
In 2015-16 a partnership of the College Board and PLTW created an opportunity for students to be recognized for their achievement and preparation for critical STEM-related fields. Students who earn the achievement have demonstrated success in both academic and applied coursework and have experienced applying advanced content knowledge to address real-world problems. To earn the recognition students must complete three courses in the pathway (one AP, one PLTW and a third either AP or PLTW) and earn a qualifying score of 3 or higher on AP exams and proficient or higher in the end-of-course assessments for PLTW.
