Double Awards - Kate Stack
Congratulations to Kate Stack for being named an Affiliate Award Recipient for the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing. Kate has also received an internship at University of Chicago for eight weeks to complete a project regarding cancer research for summer 2019! (March 2019)
Digital Electronics Art
Using a small microcontroller 'trinket' and programmable LEDs, our juniors in Digital Electronic used their Arduino programming abilities and construction skills to create desktop artistic multicolored light displays! (December 2018)

In September 2018, retired Colonel Jill Morgenthaler, spoke to our SELC students about leadership and persistence. Her unique experiences, ranging from a showdown with Saddam Hussein to saving an American engineer from a Soviet kidnapping, translated into a host of timeless lessons. (Sept 2018)

Few high schools across Illinois have received the PLTW Distinguished School award. Congrats to GBS on receiving this distinction for the third year in a row!
GBS: One of Four Illinois Distinguished High School
Glenbrook South's PLTW program was one of four Illinois high schools to receive the "Distinguished" designation. Only 64 high school in the nation received this honor. (November 2019)
SELC Grads Doing Great Things
Lucas Pauker, SELC graduate (class of 2018), is currently an undergrad at Stanford and recently published a paper in the American Astronomical Society on machine learning titled Predicting Solar Flares Using Time Series Analysis. (November 2019)
Exemplary Student Research Program @ Argonne
A dozen SELC sophomores and juniors are participating in a research experiment at Argonne National Laboratory this year. Student are work with scientist Dr. Carlo Segre and are studying the atomic structure of chromophores using the Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne. The team looks forward to presenting their research both at Argonne as well as at the GBS MakerFaire in May 2019. (December 2018)
Nick Solonko Create 3-D Models of Historic Grove Buildings
Junior Nick Solonko created exact scale model of various buildings at The Grove made using 3-D printers after he and other engineering students visited the Grove, took building measurements and studied old blueprints. (November 2017)
