Glastonbury Public Schools Science
Grade 6 — Life Science
The sixth grade science program is the first year in which students focus on only one of the major content areas of science. Life science is the theme, with particular emphasis on the structure and function of living things as well as the relationships among living things and their environments. In addition, students engage in the engineering design process and further develop the skills of asking scientific questions, developing and using models, planning and carrying out investigations, and constructing explanations for scientific phenomena. The science curriculum is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, and reflects a three-dimensional approach to instruction, which includes the science and engineering practices, life science content, and cross-cutting concepts, such as structure and function, systems, and cause and effect.
