The original artwork reproduced on the cover and the monthly pages of the GPS calendar will be celebrated at a student artist reception during the BOE Meeting in January and then for the public at the Welles Turner Library Gallery in March for Youth Art Month. The public is invited to visit the links below to learn more about these extraordinary works of art.
The process for selecting art for the GPS calendar:
The Director of Art selects a variety of artworks during our schools' art shows in the spring. The works are chosen not only for their artistic merit but also as examples of our rich curriculum across the district. The artwork then goes to a committee that narrows the selections, ensuring that all grades are included and that there is a variety of media representing the full GPS Art program. Final selections are adjusted based on the printer's recommendation in order to achieve the best final product. There are many steps in the process, to move from all the artwork created every year to the final 13-15 pieces, but in the end, we are communicating and celebrating our rich program and amazing students each year.
