Eric has been a matte painter and environment artist for feature films, television, commercials, and games since 2005. He has worked at studios such as Disney, DreamWorks, Warner Bros. Animation, and Netflix.
If you have gone to the movies or watched television in the last 15 years, chances are, you have seen some of his work. His most recent projects have been "The Wild Robot" and "The Bad Guys 2".
He has always pursued many forms of visual art. He grew up with traditional media. Watercolor and charcoal are some of his favorites.
In recent years, photography, digital paint, and pixels have been his primary form of expression, but he still enjoys picking up a pencil and brush whenever he can.
Currently, he is a full-time artist with DreamWorks Animation, where he is finishing "Shrek 5"!
On November 25, Eric Urquhart came to GHS to visit students and share his experiences as a professional artist. It was impactful for students to hear about his pathway into animation and his work with TV (Fringe, Once Upon a Time) and movies. He spoke of the grit it took to break into the career path he wanted, advising students to reach for their goals. He highlighted the importance of following your passion and making it into a sustaining and rewarding career while still doing your own art as well.
This visit gave valuable insight into the possibilities within the arts, and we are grateful for the time, energy, and encouragement he shared.
