Artistic Literacy

Artistic literacy is at the core of art instruction. Students strengthen skills in media and processes, while further developing artistic habits of mind. Students in advanced courses have opportunities to explore alternative techniques and materials, while developing their artistic voice and personal style.

21st Century Art Skills and Opportunities

Embedded into art instruction are opportunities for collaboration, problem-solving skills, studio behaviors and responsibilities, and communication. Design and technology-based classes provide 21st Century opportunities for real-world experiences with community partners. Students who plan to pursue college programs in art, and art-related professions, are supported through advanced instruction in media and studio process, as well as professional community and college collaborations. Independent study opportunities are supported for those students whose experience and skills move beyond art course offerings.
