The elementary art program at Greater Johnstown Elementary consists of a 36 week course from August through June. The curriculum is based on current Pennsylvania State Standards in Art Education. In this program, elementary students are exposed to a variety of hands-on projects and assignments utilizing a variety of artistic media including colored pencils, water colors, tempera, oil pastels, ceramics and more.
I have developed a program that incorporates art history with art production, and introduces students to the many aspects of the visual arts. Students are encouraged to be creative and express themselves artistically while learning a variety of artistic techniques and processes. Most assignments are completed within one or two art classes and student work is often displayed throughout the school building. In recent years my art students have participated and won several national art competitions and have also had artwork displayed in local businesses and museums across the region.
