Lesson 8: Patterns with Fractions

Find the difference between the numbers and if they are increasing then the rule would be to add 2/6 or you may also state it as add 1/3.

If the numbers are decreasing then the rule would be to subtract the difference between the numbers.

Lesson 9: Problem Solving - Practice Addition and Subtraction

Lesson 10: Use Properties of Addition

You can change the order of the addends.

You can regroup the numbers and add in a different order. Add the numbers that are easier. When adding fractions add the fractions that have like denominators first.

Standards

The following are the standards that we will be addressing in Chapter 6. Please let me know if you or your child has trouble with any of the assignments.

Common Core Standards

Lesson 6.1, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6, 6.7, 6.8, 6.10

5.NF.1. Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators.

Lesson 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.5, 6.6, 6.7, 6.9

5.NF.2. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole, including cases of unlike denominators, eg., by using visual fractions models or equations to represent the problems, use benchmark fractions and number sense of fractions to estimate mentally and assess the reasonableness of answers.
