Structures

Goal #1: The school district will develop a more effective discipline system for behaviors to utilize in the 2018-19 school year.

Objectives: Goal #1

• Analyze the data to identify the problems and issues with our current system.

• Research various discipline models used by other districts.

Strategies: Goal #1

• A team of administration, staff and students will analyze discipline data and recommend a discipline model.

Goal 2: The school district will create a schedule that will best serve student’s academic needs for the 2018-19 school year.

Objectives: Goal #2

• Identify the current problems with our schedule.

• Research various schedules used by other districts and encompass the career needs and pathways students may choose to complete.

• Analyze alumni surveys and assessment trends.

• Create a schedule that is feasible with our given staff, building, and resources.

Strategies: Goal #2

• A team of administration, staff and students will analyze schedule data and recommend a schedule model.

Culture

Goal #1: The school district will create a culture of inclusiveness that will include students, staff, parents, and community.

Objectives: Goal #1

• The students, staff, parents, and community members will model an attitude of school pride by being respectful, polite, and possessing a positive attitude.

Strategies: Goal #1

• Implement school spirit days, pep rallies.

• Promote Homecoming

• Encourage students to be involved in extra-curricular activities (player, student body, fan)

• Promote Clubs (i.e., chess, book clubs, tech, ping pong, gardening, etc.)

• Promote game days

• Implement PreK-12 Character Education Program

Goal #2: The school district will create a culture of unified communication that will demonstrate a positive culture of Gibbon Public Schools.

Objectives: Goal #2

• Bring the members of the school district together to demonstrate and promote the attributes of the school and community.

• District members will be given the opportunity to gain information and share their voices regarding school issues and celebrations.

Strategies: Goal #2

• The district will develop a store that expresses and displays our school spirit.

• We will communicate through our website, buff alerts, tweets, advertising, video streaming.

• Add another marquee board at the tear drop.

College and Career

Goal #1: The school district will develop and expand a program for PK-12 career exploration.

Objectives:

• Research what we already have in place for college and career exploration.

• Develop a curriculum for career exploration and education within our school.

• Develop and implement a plan for career exploration and education in the business sector.

Strategies:

• Research what other school our size is doing to teach career education.

• Plan field trips that build and expand on each other throughout Pk-12 to expose students to different career fields.

• Build upon our career education program that is taking place in junior high and continue into high school.

• Conduct college and career fairs annually.

• Have assemblies for students to listen to previous graduates that have gone into the workforce, to a 2-year college, 4-year college, or military.

• Apply for revision or other grants to get the dollars needed for academic advisory, guidance, job shadowing experiences for students.

• Hire an additional staff member to oversee the development and implementation of the college and career exploration plan.

• Send out a survey to teaching staff to find out what kinds of career, college readiness, and life skills are already being taught in the classrooms.

.Academic Achievement

Goal #1: The school district will develop a plan for graduation that equips all students with the necessary skills to be successful in life after high school. The district will review state and national standards, various assessments, requirements for entrance into college, skills for entrance into the workforce, and the 21st century skills essential to be competitive in an ever-changing, global economy.

Goal #2: The school district will create a plan to transition students from the current requirements for graduation to requirements that reflect the acquisition of skills that prepare students for college and career. The plan will raise the level of rigor across grade- levels and content areas, establishes practices that introduce advanced skills at each grade level, and places students in environments that require them to exhibit technical skills.

• Establish a process that includes the voices of classroom teachers, board members, students, members of the community, and administration to review current graduation requirements and bring a recommendation to the board by December, 2018.

• Request members of the Academic Enhancement Task Force to review current graduation requirements and bring a recommendation to the board by December, 2018.
