NeSA statewide assessments were administered in the winter and spring of 2016 in the following grades:
The tests measure the Nebraska state standards and determine Nebraska student proficiency on those standards. Scores include all students tested.
The achievement of Nebraska students has shown improvement on the tests that have been given over multiple years. The percentage of students proficient in NeSA-Reading, NeSA-Mathematics and NeSA-Science has increased over time. In NeSA-Writing the only scores available for 2014 are at grade 4 due to technology issues experienced by students at grades 8 and 11.

^In 2013 students at grades 8 and 11 experienced formatting issues with the NeSA-Writing online test administration. While research into the score results does not indicate an effect on student results, it also does not assure there was no effect. Scores should be interpreted with caution.
^^ In 2014 students in grades 8 and 11 experienced technology issues with the online test. Valid results are not available for all districts or for the state for NeSA-Writing at grades 8 and 11.

Student scale scores for reading, mathematics, and science range from 0 to 200. Students who received a scale score of 85 or higher met or exceeded the state standards. Students receiving 84 or lower are reported in the Below Standards category.

The scale score range for 4th grade, 8th grade and 11th grade is 0 - 70.
NeSA writing tests were administered in the January-February of 2016 in grades 4, 8, and 11. The tests measure the revised Nebraska state writing standards and determine Nebraska’s student writing proficiency in the designated three grades. The revised writing standards and the writing process have been strengthened and become more “college and career ready.”
Students in grades 8 and 11 participated online; students in 4th grade took the assessment paper/pencil over two days with a forty-minute session each day.
