GDOE is participating in Speak Up! Time to prepare to get the best results for JFKHS
The Speak Up Research Initiative, facilitated by Project Tomorrow, is both a national research project and a free service to schools and districts everywhere. Since fall 2003, Speak Up has helped education leaders include the voices of students, faculty, parents and the community in annual and long-term planning.
We’re joining more than 3,000 other districts around the country this year in taking advantage of this opportunity. Project Tomorrow provides everything you need to help make Speak Up a success: promotional materials, school-to-home messaging, infographics, social media promotions, lesson plans and more!
Speak Up will be open during academic year for student, parent, faculty and community participation. We need your help to ensure our school and our district get great valuable data!
You can find all the promotional materials and additional information here: https://www.tomorrow.org/speakup/promo.html

IMPORTANT ADVISORY: DENGUE FEVER AND MODIFIED UNIFORM POLICY
As of September 20, 2019, letters were sent to all GDOE students regarding Dengue Fever cases ( see letter below). Mr. Jon Fernandez, Superintendent of Education, indicated that uniform policy will be "relaxed" and allow students to wear long sleeve shirts, or jackets and long pants as one measure of prevention. For clarification, this means that John F. Kennedy High School students are allowed to wear the following WITHOUT restriction until further notice:
- Pullovers, Jackets or Long sleeve shirts can be worn over uniform top
- Uniform pants are preferred however Jeans, Slacks or Jogger Pants can be worn
- PE students and ROTC cadets conducting PT can wear long sleeve shirts and long pants
However, students are NOT allowed to wear the following at any time:
- Pants, Jeans, Jogger Pants with holes, rips, tears
- Cargo pants
- Elastic hem pants, Leggings or Yoga Pants
- Hoods should not be worn over one's head while in the hallway as we need to be able to identify our students
We will try to update the school community when new information is provided. In the meantime, please stay tune to local news media outlets for up to the minute news. Stay Safe and Take Care Islanders.
