The guidelines and information within this document apply to all Chromebooks distributed by Granite City School District Schools. Teachers may set additional requirements for use within their classrooms.
Student Expectations
Students are responsible for bringing their Chromebooks fully charged everyday, to all classes, unless advised otherwise by their teacher. Students should bring their charging cord.
Use of a Chromebook is subject to school procedures and instruction of school staff.
Internet traffic is monitored by the District and inappropriate internet use can result in the loss of Chromebook use and/or account suspension.
If a student does not bring their Chromebook to school, they may have an option to check out a loaner at the designated rental area. This privilege may be revoked for repeat offenders. Availability of loaner Chromebooks is on a first come, first served basis, and is not guaranteed.
Loaner Chromebooks may be issued to students if their Chromebooks are out for repair. Students are responsible for the care of the loaner while it is in their possession and are subject to the same policy and procedure agreement signed for the original Chromebook.
Taking Care of Your Chromebook
Students are responsible for the general care of their Chromebook. Chromebooks that are broken or fail to work properly should be taken to the designated repair area in the school.
Keep food and drinks away from your device.
Your Chromebook screen can easily be damaged. Excessive pressure can break the screen. Do not place anything on the keyboard before closing the lid (pens or pencils, flash drive, etc.). Do not place heavy objects or books on top of the Chromebook.
Chromebooks should not be exposed to extreme temperatures (hot or cold).
Chromebooks should never be left in an unlocked vehicle or an unsupervised area.
Please do not draw or place stickers on the Chromebook.
Clean the screen with a soft, dry cloth or anti-static cloth. Do not use commercial glass cleaners.
Chromebook Technical Support
To receive help from the Granite City School District Tech Help Hotline:
If a student experiences an issue with their Chromebook while in class, they will notify the teacher of the issue.
If a student has an issue with his/her Chromebook or Google Classroom while at home, the parent or student may submit a tech ticket on the District website, call, or email the Tech Help Hotline.
If the Chromebook is not usable, the student will be issued a loaner Chromebook to use during the school day until the problem with their Chromebook has been resolved. Excessive requests for service/repair are subject to review by the school administration.
Chromebook Identification
Chromebooks will be labeled in the manner specified by GCSD9.
Students will not remove the Chromebook serial number, asset tag number, or name and ID number label. If stickers have or appear to be falling off, students should take their Chromebook and sticker to the designated repair area in the school.
Intentional or Negligent Damage
Students could be held partially or fully responsible for damages/loss of their Chromebooks.
Examples include:
Liquid/beverage spills on the Chromebooks.
Deliberate damage, neglect or abuse caused by you or others you allow to use your Chromebook. This includes intentionally marking, defacing and/or abusing the Chromebook
Leaving the Chromebook unattended or failing to secure it per school recommendations.
Leaving the Chromebook in an unlocked car, locker, or on the bus.
Mysterious disappearance of the Chromebook - meaning the student has no knowledge as to the place, time, or manner of the loss.
If the device is stolen, a police report must be made in order to not receive an obligation.
Damage to or loss of a Chromebook could result in the following charges. Cost will be determined at the school, parents will be notified and may make the payment at the school. Charges not paid will be entered as an obligation to be paid.
