Who we are...
Who we are...
Hello, Future MVHS Cadet Corps Fan and Supporter. ~ The Mountain View High School Cadet Corps is a Navy JROTC program located in Bend, Oregon. We are the only high school in Bend with a JROTC program. We are led by Major Scott Buchanan, a 20-year veteran of the US Air Force.
Who We Are: We are a high school elective, social studies, and PE class on paper. In reality, we are a community service minded group of dedicated students who emphasize citizenship development and leadership skills. The MVHS Cadet Corps fosters the Navy's core values of honor, courage, and commitment. We are student-led program with a focus on encouraging and uplifting one another, challenging ourselves and each another to share our strengths and improve our weaknesses, and serving our Central Oregon community. Cadets also have the opportunity to join and compete on specialized teams which require commitment outside of the school day. They compete against other JROTC programs in the Pacific Northwest to foster individual and team growth in academic, athletic, color guard, drill, and marksmanship disciplines. Last year, every team placed at our competitions! Our Color Guard was FIRST PLACE in the Pacific Northwest in both the Navy and the interservice competition!
Services Provided: The cadets gain community service hours that are amazing resume boosters for college and scholarship applications through color guard teams, local parades, and by supporting several non-profit organizations throughout the community. We volunteer in state parks, place and stow American flags downtown, place flags and wreaths on graves of veterans, and so much more. If you are an organization with a specific need or service, reach out to me (see below). You may be interested in color guard services, seeing a drill demonstration, or just need some assistance with a specific event or task. Our cadets are a mighty team, but our schedule fills up quickly.
Financial Assistance: We realize funds are tight these days, but we are always in need of financial support. We are not a military funded program. Every cent we spent to support events, purchase uniforms and equipment, and attend competitions is fundraised. This year, we've been invited to participate in the Memorial Day Parade down Constitution Avenue in Washington DC! That will cost about $20,000! If you or an organization you're affiliated with would like to support us, please reach out!
With much gratitude and appreciation,
The MVHS Cadet Corps and
